HOLOGRAPHY
Holography is a light recording medium. Recording light waves in order to render an image requires a movement/vibration free studio and specialized optics. Historically, the first studio was created for artistic use in the late 1960’s but was not refined for creative applications until the 1970’s. From 1970-1990’s holographic studios owned and operated by holographers proliferated. By the 2000’s most of these studios had ceased operation as Universities and younger artists embraced other technologies for rendering art works. Despite this, internationally, there remain practitioners and people interested in learning the craft, but studios are almost nonexistent…a big part of why we do what we do! Educational programming and public engagement is crucial for the continuation of this unique artistic medium, and Southwood Holographics is proud to be carving that path by providing accessibility and learning opportunities at our holography facility.
